Don’t hate it when you buy a beautiful bunch of flowers that end up falling off after just a day or two.
Well, floral designer Rachel Cho has shared what it takes to stop your poppy flowers from doing just that – and it won’t cost you a penny.

In the clip, Cho started making her own bouquet of poppies by first making sure she had a vase filled with fresh water.
Then she gently peeled off the base of each flower to expose the stunning colors.
Using a pair of pliers, she then cut the ends at an angle.
She revealed the most important step of all: burning the tip of the rod.

Whether you use a candle or a lighter to burn the bottom end of each flower stem, be sure to let it burn for a few seconds.
Once you have made each flower, throw them in fresh water and be sure to change it daily.
Cho explained, “It’s the only way to prepare poppies. Otherwise, they’ll fall.”
Even though his trick proved effective, some were still curious to know exactly how it worked.
A user asked, “What does burning do?”
A second said: “Is burning important for all flowers, or just poppies?”
“Love that in this video alone you can see the flowers start to open the longer they are in the water,” praised a third.
Much like wounding, cauterizing flower stems is a way to keep fresh cut flowers fresher longer.
The burning of the stem creates a scab on the cut end of the flower which prevents vital nutrients from escaping.
An expert previously revealed the health benefits of having flowers in your home.

For one, it has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety.
Indeed, some flowers release endorphins that help improve your mood.
